BAUHINIA HEALTH

Bauhinia Health - Northern Territory

In collaboration with renowned Northern Territory artist and fashion designer, Kaz Randall of Azollabloom, I assisted in the creation of a logo design for Bauhinia Health, a medical centre in Katherine, NT. I digitised Kaz’s initial sketch and together we workshopped colours, typography and placement. I created a print-ready, resizable file to use on appointment cards, uniform embroidery, and signage such as flags and wall decals.
The significance of the Bauhinia tree, which is also known as the Bohemia Tree, Kimberley Bauhinia, Red Bauhinia, Beantree, Joomoo and Jigal Tree, lies not just in its beauty – but in its powers as a bush medicine. Native to Katherine and the surrounding region, the Bauhinia tree has beautiful flowers and leaves. The Bauhinia plant species produce slightly fragrant orchid-like blooms, as well as edible nectar and sweet gum. The Bauhinia is such a versatile plant, with its other uses including: being an excellent source of smokeless firewood, keeping mozzies and flies away, treating headaches, acting as an antiseptic and as a remedy for fever. Aboriginal people have also used the Bauhinia tree to make nulla-nullas, hook spear heads, coolamons and woomeras, in addition to its history of being a strong medicine plant with healing powers.
The owners felt that the Bauhinia was a good fit for the name of the Clinic.
